| 1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. | 1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. |
| 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, | 2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
| 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, | 3unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, |
| 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- | 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
| 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. | 5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. |
| 6They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, | 6For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, |
| 7always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. | 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
| 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. | 11persecutions, sufferings--what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. | 13while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. |
| 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, | 14You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, |
| 15and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. | 15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, | 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; |
| 17so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. | 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. |
