| 4Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. | 4Even before I have formed a word with my tongue, you, LORD, know it completely! |
| 5You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. | 5You encircle me from back to front, placing your hand upon me. |
| 6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. | 6Knowledge like this is too amazing for me. It is beyond my reach, and I cannot fathom it. |

| 22I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. | 22With consummate hatred I hate them; I consider them my enemies. |
| 23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. | 23Examine me, God, and know my mind, test me, and know my thoughts. |
| 24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. | 24See if there is any offensive tendency in me, and lead me in the eternal way. |
