Psalm 81
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob! 1Sing praises to God, our strength. Sing to the God of Jacob.
Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! 2Sing! Beat the tambourine. Play the sweet lyre and the harp.
Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. 3Blow the ram’s horn at new moon, and again at full moon to call a festival!
For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. 4For this is required by the decrees of Israel; it is a regulation of the God of Jacob.
He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. 5He made it a law for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice say,
It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. 6“Now I will take the load from your shoulders; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.
In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah) 7You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you; I answered out of the thundercloud and tested your faith when there was no water at Meribah. Interlude
I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! 8“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me!
There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. 9You must never have a foreign god; you must not bow down before a false god.
I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!' 10For it was I, the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.
But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. 11“But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around.
I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. 12So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas.
If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! 13Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." 14How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) 15Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever.
"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." 16But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”
