| 2Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! | 2Lift up a song--play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. |
| 3Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. | 3Blow the horn on the day of our feasts during the new moon and during the full moon. |
| 4For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. | 4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. |
| 5He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. | 5He set it up as a decree for Joseph when he went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard an unfamiliar language: |
| 6It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. | 6"I relieved his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from carrying the basket. |

| 8I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! | 8Listen, my people, and I will admonish you. Israel, if you would only listen to me! |
| 9There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. | 9There must not be a strange god among you; you must not bow down to a foreign god. |

| 11But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. | 11"But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel did not obey me. |
| 12I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. | 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans. |
| 13If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! | 13If only my people would listen to me and Israel would follow my ways, |
| 14Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." | 14I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes." |
| 15(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) | 15Those who hate the LORD would cower to him; their doom would last forever. |
| 16"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." | 16But he would feed Israel with the best wheat. "I would satisfy you with honey from the rock." |
