| 1A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom. LORD, how numerous are my enemies! Many attack me. | 1O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. |
| 2Many say about me, "God will not deliver him." (Selah) | 2So many are saying, “God will never rescue him!” Interlude |
| 3But you, LORD, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me. | 3But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. |
| 4To the LORD I cried out, and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah) | 4I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. Interlude |
| 5I rested and slept; I awoke, for the LORD protects me. | 5I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me. |
