A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom. LORD, how numerous are my enemies! Many attack me. | 1O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. |
Many say about me, "God will not deliver him." (Selah) | 2So many are saying, “God will never rescue him!” Interlude |
But you, LORD, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me. | 3But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. |
To the LORD I cried out, and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah) | 4I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. Interlude |
I rested and slept; I awoke, for the LORD protects me. | 5I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me. |
I am not afraid of the multitude of people who attack me from all directions. | 6I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side. |
Rise up, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Yes, you will strike all my enemies on the jaw; you will break the teeth of the wicked. | 7Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked! |
The LORD delivers; you show favor to your people. (Selah) | 8Victory comes from you, O LORD. May you bless your people. Interlude |
