A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. | 1A psalm of Asaph. God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the "gods": |
He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) | 2"How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? |
Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! | 3Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. |
Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! | 4Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. |
They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. | 5"The 'gods' know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. |
I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' | 6"I said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.' |
Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." | 7But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler." |
Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. | 8Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance. |
