A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. | 1A Psalm of Asaph. God presides in the divine assembly; He renders judgment among the gods: |
He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) | 2“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah |
Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! | 3Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed. |
Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! | 4Rescue the weak and needy; save them from the hand of the wicked. |
They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. | 5They do not know or understand; they wander in the darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. |
I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' | 6I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’ |
Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." | 7But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall.” |
Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. | 8Arise, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are Your inheritance. |
