A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. | 1God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: |
He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) | 2“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah |
Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! | 3Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. |
Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! | 4Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” |
They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. | 5They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. |
I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' | 6I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; |
Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." | 7nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” |
Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. | 8Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations! |
