For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments, according to the sheminith style; a psalm of David. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger! Do not discipline me in your raging fury! | 1For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. |
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am frail! Heal me, LORD, for my bones are shaking! | 2Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony. |
I am absolutely terrified, and you, LORD--how long will this continue? | 3My soul is in deep anguish. How long, LORD, how long? |
Relent, LORD, rescue me! Deliver me because of your faithfulness! | 4Turn, LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. |
For no one remembers you in the realm of death, In Sheol who gives you thanks? | 5Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave? |
I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. | 6I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. |
My eyes grow dim from suffering; they grow weak because of all my enemies. | 7My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. |
Turn back from me, all you who behave wickedly, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping! | 8Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping. |
The LORD has heard my appeal for mercy; the LORD has accepted my prayer. | 9The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. |
May all my enemies be humiliated and absolutely terrified! May they turn back and be suddenly humiliated! | 10All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame. |
