So, brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but instead as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. | 1And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. |
I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready, | 2I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, |
for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people? | 3for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? |
For whenever someone says, "I am with Paul," or "I am with Apollos," are you not merely human? | 4For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men? |
What is Apollos, really? Or what is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, and each of us in the ministry the Lord gave us. | 5What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. |
I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow. | 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. |
So neither the one who plants counts for anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth. | 7So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. |
The one who plants and the one who waters work as one, but each will receive his reward according to his work. | 8Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. |
We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God's field, God's building. | 9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. |
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds. | 10According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. |
For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ. | 11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. |
If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, | 12Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, |
each builder's work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test what kind of work each has done. | 13each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. |
If what someone has built survives, he will receive a reward. | 14If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. |
If someone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as through fire. | 15If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. |
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? | 16Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? |
If someone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, which is what you are. | 17If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. |
Guard against self-deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise. | 18Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. |
For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness." | 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; |
And again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." | 20and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." |
So then, no more boasting about mere mortals! For everything belongs to you, | 21So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, |
whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. Everything belongs to you, | 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, |
and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. | 23and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God. |
