| 1So, brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but instead as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. | 1Brothers, I couldn't talk to you as spiritual people but as worldly people, as mere infants in the Messiah. |
| 2I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready, | 2I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you weren't ready for it. And you're still not ready! |
| 3for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people? | 3That's because you are still worldly. As long as there is jealousy and quarreling among you, you are worldly and living by human standards, aren't you? |
| 4For whenever someone says, "I am with Paul," or "I am with Apollos," are you not merely human? | 4For when one person says, "I follow Paul," and another person says, "I follow to Apollos," you're following your own human nature, aren't you? |
| 5What is Apollos, really? Or what is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, and each of us in the ministry the Lord gave us. | 5Who is Apollos, anyhow? Or who is Paul? They're merely servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord gave to each of us his task. |
| 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow. | 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God kept everything growing. |

| 23and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. | 23but you belong to the Messiah, and the Messiah belongs to God. |
