A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day. It is fitting to thank the LORD, and to sing praises to your name, O sovereign One! | 1A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: |
It is fitting to proclaim your loyal love in the morning, and your faithfulness during the night, | 2To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, |
to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre, to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp. | 3Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. |
For you, O LORD, have made me happy by your work. I will sing for joy because of what you have done. | 4For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands. |
How great are your works, O LORD! Your plans are very intricate! | 5O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. |
The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. | 6A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. |
When the wicked sprout up like grass, and all the evildoers glisten, it is so that they may be annihilated. | 7When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever: |
But you, O LORD, reign forever! | 8But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore. |
Indeed, look at your enemies, O LORD! Indeed, look at how your enemies perish! All the evildoers are scattered! | 9For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. |
You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox. I am covered with fresh oil. | 10But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. |
I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me; I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me. | 11Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. |
The godly grow like a palm tree; they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon. | 12The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. |
Planted in the LORD's house, they grow in the courts of our God. | 13Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. |
They bear fruit even when they are old; they are filled with vitality and have many leaves. | 14They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; |
So they proclaim that the LORD, my protector, is just and never unfair. | 15To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. |
