Psalm 81
NASB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New Living Translation
For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.1Sing praises to God, our strength. Sing to the God of Jacob.
Raise a song, strike the timbrel, The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.2Sing! Beat the tambourine. Play the sweet lyre and the harp.
Blow the trumpet at the new moon, At the full moon, on our feast day.3Blow the ram’s horn at new moon, and again at full moon to call a festival!
For it is a statute for Israel, An ordinance of the God of Jacob.4For this is required by the decrees of Israel; it is a regulation of the God of Jacob.
He established it for a testimony in Joseph When he went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know:5He made it a law for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice say,
"I relieved his shoulder of the burden, His hands were freed from the basket.6“Now I will take the load from your shoulders; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.
"You called in trouble and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.7You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you; I answered out of the thundercloud and tested your faith when there was no water at Meribah. Interlude
"Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me!8“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me!
"Let there be no strange god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.9You must never have a foreign god; you must not bow down before a false god.
"I, the LORD, am your God, Who brought you up from the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.10For it was I, the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.
"But My people did not listen to My voice, And Israel did not obey Me.11“But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around.
"So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk in their own devices.12So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas.
"Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!13Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
"I would quickly subdue their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries.14How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
"Those who hate the LORD would pretend obedience to Him, And their time of punishment would be forever.15Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever.
"But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."16But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”
