A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle; | 1By David. The LORD, my protector, deserves praise--the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, |
My lovingkindness and my fortress, My stronghold and my deliverer, My shield and He in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. | 2who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me. |
O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? | 3O LORD, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them? |
Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow. | 4People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears. |
Bow Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; Touch the mountains, that they may smoke. | 5O LORD, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder! |
Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Send out Your arrows and confuse them. | 6Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them! |
Stretch forth Your hand from on high; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, Out of the hand of aliens | 7Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners, |
Whose mouths speak deceit, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. | 8who speak lies, and make false promises. |
I will sing a new song to You, O God; Upon a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You, | 9O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you, |
Who gives salvation to kings, Who rescues David His servant from the evil sword. | 10the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword. |
Rescue me and deliver me out of the hand of aliens, Whose mouth speaks deceit And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. | 11Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises. |
Let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants, And our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace; | 12Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace. |
Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; | 13Our storehouses will be full, providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures. |
Let our cattle bear Without mishap and without loss, Let there be no outcry in our streets! | 14Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. |
How blessed are the people who are so situated; How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! | 15How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the LORD! |
