New American Standard Bible 1995 | International Standard Version |
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. | 1Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They are corrupt and commit evil deeds; not one of them practices what is good. |
The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. | 2The LORD looks down from the heavens upon humanity to see if anyone shows discernment as he searches for God. |
They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. | 3All have turned away, together they have become corrupt; no one practices what is good, not even one. |
Do all the workers of wickedness not know, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon the Lord? | 4Will those who do evil ever learn? They devour my people like they devour bread, and never call on the LORD. |
There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation. | 5There they are seized with terror, because God is with those who are righteous. |
You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted, But the LORD is his refuge. | 6You would frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the LORD is their refuge. |
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad. | 7May Israel's deliverance come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice, and Israel will be glad. |
