King James Bible | New Living Translation |
Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave. I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication. | 1I cry out to the LORD; I plead for the LORD’s mercy. |
I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. | 2I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. |
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. | 3When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me. |
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. | 4I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me. |
I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. | 5Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. |
Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. | 6Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. |
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me. | 7Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me.” |
