King James Bible | NET Bible |
A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. | 1A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the well-being of Zion, we thought we were dreaming. |
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. | 2At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy. At that time the nations said, "The LORD has accomplished great things for these people." |
The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. | 3The LORD did indeed accomplish great things for us. We were happy. |
Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. | 4O LORD, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished. |
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. | 5Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest. |
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. | 6The one who weeps as he walks along, carrying his bag of seed, will certainly come in with a shout of joy, carrying his sheaves of grain. |
