And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. | 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. |
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. | 2I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. |
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. | 3Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look! God's dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. |
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. | 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. |
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. | 5Then the One seated on the throne said, "Look! I am making everything new." He also said, "Write, because these words are faithful and true." |
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. | 6And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water as a gift to the thirsty from the spring of life. |
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. | 7The victor will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. |
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. | 8But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars--their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." |
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. | 9Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me: "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." |
And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, | 10He then carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, |
Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; | 11arrayed with God's glory. Her radiance was like a very precious stone, like a jasper stone, bright as crystal. |
And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: | 12The city had a massive high wall, with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the 12 tribes of Israel's sons were inscribed on the gates. |
On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. | 13There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. |
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. | 14The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb's 12 apostles were on the foundations. |
And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. | 15The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. |
And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. | 16The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia. Its length, width, and height are equal. |
And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. | 17Then he measured its wall, 144 cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. |
And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. | 18The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold like clear glass. |
And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; | 19The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, |
The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. | 20the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. |
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. | 21The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. |
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. | 22I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. |
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. | 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God's glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. |
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. | 24The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. |
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. | 25Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. |
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. | 26They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. |
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. | 27Nothing profane will ever enter it: no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb's book of life. |
