King James Bible | English Standard Version |
Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) | 1Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— |
And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: | 2and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: |
Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, | 3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, |
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: | 4who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, |
To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. | 5to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. |
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: | 6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— |
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. | 7not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. |
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. | 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. |
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. | 9As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. |
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. | 10For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. | 11For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. |
For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. | 12For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. |
For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: | 13For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. |
And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers. | 14And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. |
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, | 15But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, |
To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: | 16was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone; |
Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. | 17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. |
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. | 18Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days. |
But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother. | 19But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother. |
Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. | 20(In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie!) |
Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; | 21Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. |
And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: | 22And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. |
But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. | 23They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” |
And they glorified God in me. | 24And they glorified God because of me. |
