When I call, answer me, my righteous God! When I was in distress, you set me free. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer. | 1For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. |
You people, how long will you malign my reputation? How long will you love what is vain and what is false? Interlude | 2How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods |
But understand this: the LORD has set apart the godly for himself! The LORD will hear me when I cry out to him! | 3Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. |
Be angry, yet do not sin. Think about this when upon your beds, and be silent. Interlude | 4Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. |
Offer sacrifices that are righteous, and put your confidence in the LORD. | 5Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD. |
Many are asking, "Who will help us to see better days?" LORD, may the light of your favor shine upon us. | 6Many, LORD, are asking, "Who will bring us prosperity?" Let the light of your face shine on us. |
You have given me more joy in my heart than at harvest times, when grain and wine abound. | 7Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. |
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, LORD, enable me to live securely. | 8In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. |
