LORD, remember in David's favor all of his troubles; | 1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial. |
how he swore an oath to the LORD, vowing to the Mighty One of Jacob, | 2He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
"I will not enter my house, or lie down on my bed, | 3"I will not enter my house or go to my bed, |
or let myself go to sleep or even take a nap, | 4I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, |
until I locate a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." | 5till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
We heard about it in Ephrata; we found it in the fields of Jaar. | 6We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: |
Let's go to his dwelling place and worship at his footstool. | 7"Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying, |
Arise, LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength. | 8Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. |
May your priests be clothed with righteousness and may your godly ones shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.'" |
For the sake of your servant David, don't turn away the face of your anointed one. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. |
The LORD made an oath to David from which he will not retreat: "One of your sons I will set in place on your throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. |
If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever." | 12If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion, desiring it as his dwelling place. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, |
"This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, because I desire to do so. | 14"This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. |
I will bless its provisions abundantly; I will satiate its poor with food. | 15I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. |
I will clothe its priests with salvation and its godly ones will shout for joy. | 16I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. |
There I will create a power base for David— I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. | 17"Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. |
I will clothe his enemies with disgrace, but on him his crown will shine." | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown." |
