LORD, remember in David's favor all of his troubles; | 1LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured, |
how he swore an oath to the LORD, vowing to the Mighty One of Jacob, | 2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
"I will not enter my house, or lie down on my bed, | 3"I will not enter my house or get into my bed, |
or let myself go to sleep or even take a nap, | 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber |
until I locate a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
We heard about it in Ephrata; we found it in the fields of Jaar. | 6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
Let's go to his dwelling place and worship at his footstool. | 7Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool. |
Arise, LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength. | 8Rise up, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your powerful ark. |
May your priests be clothed with righteousness and may your godly ones shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may your faithful people shout for joy. |
For the sake of your servant David, don't turn away the face of your anointed one. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. |
The LORD made an oath to David from which he will not retreat: "One of your sons I will set in place on your throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: "I will set one of your offspring on your throne. |
If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever." | 12If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion, desiring it as his dwelling place. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home: |
"This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, because I desire to do so. | 14"This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it. |
I will bless its provisions abundantly; I will satiate its poor with food. | 15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread. |
I will clothe its priests with salvation and its godly ones will shout for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy. |
There I will create a power base for David— I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. | 17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. |
I will clothe his enemies with disgrace, but on him his crown will shine." | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious." |
