| 2"I know that you can do anything and nothing that you plan is impossible. | 2"I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. |
| 3You asked, 'Who is this that darkens counsel without knowledge?' Well now, I have talked about what I don't understand— awesome things beyond me that I don't know. | 3You asked, 'Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. |
| 4Listen now, and I will speak for myself; I'll interrogate you and then inform me. | 4"You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.' |
| 5I've heard you with my ears; and now I've seen you with my eyes. | 5My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. |
| 6As a result, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." | 6Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." |
| 7After these words had been spoken by the LORD to Job, the LORD spoke to Eliphaz from Teman: "My anger is burning against you along with your two friends, since you haven't spoken correctly about me, as did my servant Job. | 7After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. |
| 8So take seven bulls and seven rams and bring them to my servant Job. And bring a whole burnt offering for yourselves and my servant Job will pray for you. I'll encourage him by not responding as your disgraceful folly deserves, since you didn't speak about me correctly as did my servant Job. | 8So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has." |
| 9So Eliphaz from Teman, Bildad from Shuah, and Zophar from Naamath did precisely as the LORD had spoken to them, because the LORD showed favor to Job. | 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the LORD told them; and the LORD accepted Job's prayer. |
| 10The LORD restored Job's prosperity after he prayed for his friends. The LORD doubled everything that Job had once possessed. | 10After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. |
| 11Then all his brothers and sisters and all those who knew him before arrived. They ate food with him in his house, mourned for him, and consoled him for all the trouble that the LORD had brought and placed on him. Some gave him gold bullion and some brought gold earrings. | 11All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. |
| 12The LORD blessed Job during the latter part of his life more than the former, since he owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys. | 12The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. |
| 13He also had seven sons and three daughters. | 13And he also had seven sons and three daughters. |
| 14He named the first daughter Jemima, the second Keziah, and the name of the third was Keren-happuch. | 14The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. |
| 15No one could find more beautiful women in the whole land than Job's daughters. Their father gave them their inheritance along with their brothers. | 15Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers. |
| 16Job lived 140 years after this, and saw his children and grandchildren to the fourth generation. | 16After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. |
| 17Then Job died at an old age, having lived a full life. | 17And so Job died, an old man and full of years. |
