In reply, Job responded: | 1But Job answered and said, |
"What a help you are to the weak! How powerfully you deliver those without strength! | 2How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength? |
What counsel you provide to the fool! What insight you provide so abundantly! | 3How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? |
Who helped you say all of this? Who inspired you?" | 4To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee? |
"The ghosts of the dead writhe under the waters along with those who live there with them. | 5Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. |
Sheol is naked before God and Abaddon has no clothes. | 6Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering. |
He spreads out the north over empty space, suspending the earth over nothing. | 7He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. |
"He restricts the waters within clouds and the clouds don't burst open under them. | 8He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. |
He has enclosed the face of the full moon and spread his clouds over it. | 9He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it. |
He has delimited a boundary over the surface of the oceans as a limit between light and darkness. | 10He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. |
The pillars of the heavens tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. | 11The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. |
By his power he disturbs the sea; and with his skill he shatters the sea monster. | 12He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud. |
he clears the skies with his wind; his hands have pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. |
Indeed, these are the fringes of his ways, and how faint is the whisper we've heard of it! But who can comprehend the thunder of his might?" | 14Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand? |
