God, nations have invaded your land to desecrate your holy Temple, to destroy Jerusalem, | 1God, the nations have invaded your inheritance, desecrated your holy temple, and turned Jerusalem into ruins. |
to give the corpses of your servants as food for the birds of the skies and the flesh of your godly ones to the beasts of the earth; | 2They gave the corpses of your servants to the birds of the sky for food, the flesh of your faithful ones to the beasts of the earth. |
to make their blood flow like water around Jerusalem, with no one being buried. | 3They poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them. |
We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and a derision to those around us. | 4We have become an object of reproach to our neighbors, a source of mockery and ridicule to those around us. |
How long, LORD, will you be angry? Forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? | 5How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy keep burning like fire? |
Pour out your wrath upon the nations that do not acknowledge you, and over the kingdoms that do not call on your name. | 6Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that don't call on your name, |
For they consumed Jacob, making his dwelling place desolate. | 7for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland. |
Don't charge us for previous iniquity, but let your compassion come quickly to us, for we have been brought very low. | 8Do not hold past iniquities against us; let your compassion come to us quickly, for we have become very weak. |
Help us, God, our deliverer, on account of your glorious name, deliver us and forgive our sins on account of your name. | 9God of our salvation, help us--for the glory of your name. Rescue us and atone for our sins, for your name's sake. |
Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let vengeance for the blood of your servants be meted out before our eyes and among the nations. | 10Why should the nations ask, "Where is their God?" Before our eyes, let vengeance for the shed blood of your servants be known among the nations. |
Let the cries of the prisoners reach you. With the strength of your power, release those condemned to death. | 11Let the groans of the prisoners reach you; according to your great power, preserve those condemned to die. |
Pay back our neighbors seven times the reproach with which they reproached you, LORD. | 12Pay back sevenfold to our neighbors the reproach they have hurled at you, Lord. |
Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you always, from generation to generation. We will declare your praise. | 13Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will thank you forever; we will declare your praise to generation after generation. |
