Holman Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 1I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
This is good, and it pleases God our Savior,3This is good and pleases God our Savior,
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, 5For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.
who gave Himself--a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.8In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel, 9And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God. 10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
A woman should learn in silence with full submission.11Women should learn quietly and submissively.
I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent. 12I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.
For Adam was created first, then Eve.13For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.14And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.
But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good judgment. 15But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.
