Holman Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
For the choir director: on the Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. 1For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob!
Lift up a song--play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. 2Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument!
Blow the horn on the day of our feasts during the new moon and during the full moon. 3Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins.
For this is a statute for Israel, a judgment of the God of Jacob. 4For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob.
He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph when He went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard an unfamiliar language:" 5He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize.
I relieved his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from carrying the basket. 6It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket.
You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah 7In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah)
Listen, My people, and I will admonish you. Israel, if you would only listen to Me! 8I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me!
There must not be a strange god among you; you must not bow down to a foreign god. 9There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god.
I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it." 10I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!'
But My people did not listen to Me; Israel did not obey Me. 11But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans. 12I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them.
If only My people would listen to Me and Israel would follow My ways, 13If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands!
I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes." 14Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries."
Those who hate the LORD would pretend submission to Him; their doom would last forever. 15(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!)
But He would feed Israel with the best wheat." I would satisfy you with honey from the rock." 16"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs."
