| 1The LORD answered Job: | 1Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, |
| 2Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer. | 2Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. |
| 3Then Job answered the LORD: | 3Then Job answered the LORD, and said, |
| 4I am so insignificant. How can I answer You? I place my hand over my mouth. | 4Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. |
| 5I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but now I can add nothing. | 5Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. |
| 6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: | 6Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, |
| 7Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question you, you will inform Me. | 7Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. |
| 8Would you really challenge My justice? Would you declare Me guilty to justify yourself? | 8Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? |
| 9Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His? | 9Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? |
| 10Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory. | 10Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. |
| 11Unleash your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him. | 11Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. |
| 12Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand. | 12Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. |
| 13Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave. | 13Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. |
| 14Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you. | 14Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. |
| 15Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox. | 15Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. |
| 16Look at the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly. | 16Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. |
| 17He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together. | 17He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. |
| 18His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods. | 18His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. |
| 19He is the foremost of God's works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him. | 19He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. |
| 20The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there. | 20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. |
| 21He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds. | 21He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. |
| 22Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him. | 22The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. |
| 23Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth. | 23Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. |
| 24Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares? | 24He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. |
