The LORD answered Job: 1The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:
Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who argues with God give an answer. 2"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."
Then Job answered the LORD: 3Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:
I am so insignificant. How can I answer You? I place my hand over my mouth. 4"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless.
I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but now I can add nothing. 5I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 6The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:
Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question you, you will inform Me. 7"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!
Would you really challenge My justice? Would you declare Me guilty to justify yourself? 8Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?
Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His? 9Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"
Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory. 10"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity,
Unleash your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him. 11dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,
Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand. 12stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,
Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave. 13buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place,
Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you. 14then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox. 15"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.
Look at the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly. 16Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.
He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together. 17His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.
His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods. 18His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.
He is the foremost of God's works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him. 19He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword.
The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there. 20Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.
He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds. 21He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes.
Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him. 22The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.
Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth. 23What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.
Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares? 24Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"
