English Standard Version | New Living Translation |
It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; | 1It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. |
to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, | 2It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, |
to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. | 3accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp, and the melody of a lyre. |
For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy. | 4You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. |
How great are your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep! | 5O LORD, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts. |
The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: | 6Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this: |
that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; | 7Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. |
but you, O LORD, are on high forever. | 8But you, O LORD, will be exalted forever. |
For behold, your enemies, O LORD, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered. | 9Your enemies, LORD, will surely perish; all evildoers will be scattered. |
But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil. | 10But you have made me as strong as a wild ox. You have anointed me with the finest oil. |
My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants. | 11My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents. |
The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. | 12But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. |
They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. | 13For they are transplanted to the LORD’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. |
They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, | 14Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. |
to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. | 15They will declare, “The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!” |
