| 2“Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), | 2Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance with these borders: |
| 3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. | 3Your southern side will be from the Wilderness of Zin along the boundary of Edom. Your southern border on the east will begin at the east end of the Dead Sea. |
| 4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. | 4Your border will turn south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, proceed to Zin, and end south of Kadesh-barnea. It will go to Hazar-addar and proceed to Azmon. |
| 5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea. | 5The border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, where it will end at the Mediterranean Sea. |
| 6“For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border. | 6Your western border will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea; this will be your western border. |
| 7“This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor. | 7This will be your northern border: From the Mediterranean Sea draw a line to Mount Hor; |
| 8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad. | 8from Mount Hor draw a line to the entrance of Hamath, and the border will reach Zedad. |
| 9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border. | 9Then the border will go to Ziphron and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your northern border. |
| 10“You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. | 10For your eastern border, draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham. |
| 11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. | 11The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah east of Ain. It will continue down and reach the eastern slope of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.” | 12Then the border will go down to the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. This will be your land defined by its borders on all sides." |
| 13Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. | 13So Moses commanded the Israelites, "This is the land you are to receive by lot as an inheritance, which the LORD commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes. |
| 14For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. | 14For the tribe of the Reubenites and the tribe of the Gadites have received their inheritance according to their ancestral houses, and half the tribe of Manasseh has received its inheritance. |
| 15The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.” | 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, eastward toward the sunrise." |

| 17“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. | 17These are the names of the men who are to distribute the land as an inheritance for you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. |
| 18You shall take one chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. | 18Take one leader from each tribe to distribute the land. |
| 19These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. | 19These are the names of the men: Caleb son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah; |
| 20Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. | 20Shemuel son of Ammihud from the tribe of Simeon; |
| 21Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. | 21Elidad son of Chislon from the tribe of Benjamin; |
| 22Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli. | 22Bukki son of Jogli, a leader from the tribe of Dan; |
| 23Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod. | 23from the sons of Joseph: Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh, |
| 24And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. | 24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, a leader from the tribe of Ephraim; |
| 25Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. | 25Eli-zaphan son of Parnach, a leader from the tribe of Zebulun; |
| 26Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan. | 26Paltiel son of Azzan, a leader from the tribe of Issachar; |
| 27And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. | 27Ahihud son of Shelomi, a leader from the tribe of Asher; |
| 28Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.” | 28Pedahel son of Ammihud, a leader from the tribe of Naphtali." |
| 29These are the men whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan. | 29These are the ones the LORD commanded to distribute the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan. |
