This territory has been apportioned to you as your inheritance: the entire land of Canaan, all the way to its borders.'" |
| 3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. | 3"'To your south is the Wilderness of Zin, bordering Edom. Your southern border is to extend east toward the far end of the Dead Sea, |
| 4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. | 4then it is to turn southward to the ascent of Akrabbim, cross Zin, and then run south of Kadesh-barnea and proceed from there to Hazar-addar and across to Azmon. |
| 5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea. | 5Then the border is to turn from Azmon toward the wadi of Egypt and from there to the Mediterranean Sea.'" |
| 6“For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border. | 6"'The western border is to be the Mediterranean Sea. This is to be the western border.'" |
| 7“This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor. | 7"'Your northern border is to extend from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor. |
| 8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad. | 8From Mount Hor, you are to mark out the entrance to Hammath, with the border running through Zedad, |
| 9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border. | 9then through Ziphron, and then to Hazar-enan. This is to be the northern border.'" |
| 10“You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. | 10"'You are to mark the border on the east from Hazar-enan to Shepham. |
| 11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. | 11The border is then to extend from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, then to the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. |
| 12And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.” | 12The border is to continue along the Jordan River all the way to the Dead Sea. This is to be your land, as measured by its boundaries.'" |
| 13Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. | 13Moses commanded the Israelis, "You are to inherit this land by lot, just as the LORD commanded to give it to the remaining nine and a half tribes. |
| 14For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. | 14The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, as defined by their ancestral houses, have received their inheritance. |
| 15The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.” | 15These two and a half tribes received their inheritance this side of the Jordan River, east of Jericho, facing the rising sun." |
| 16The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 16Then the LORD told Moses, |
| 17“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. | 17"These are the names of the men who are to divide the land for your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Nun's son Joshua. |
| 18You shall take one chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. | 18You are to appoint a leader from each tribe to divide the land for inheritance. |
| 19These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. | 19These are the names of the men: Appoint Jephunneh's son Caleb from the tribe of Judah, |
| 20Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. | 20Ammihud's son Shemuel from the tribe of Simeon, |
| 21Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. | 21Chislon's son Elidad from the tribe of Benjamin, |
| 22Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli. | 22and Jogli's son Bukki is to be leader of the tribe of Dan. |
| 23Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod. | 23From the tribe of Joseph, you are to appoint Ephod's son Hanniel to be leader of the half tribe of Manasseh, |
| 24And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. | 24Shiphtan's son Kemuel to be leader of the half tribe of Ephraim, |
| 25Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. | 25Parnach's son Elizaphan to be leader of the tribe of Zebulun, |
| 26Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan. | 26Azzan's son Paltiel to be leader of the tribe of Issachar, |
| 27And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. | 27Shelomi's son Ahihud to be leader of the tribe of Asher, |
| 28Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.” | 28and Ammihud's son Pedahel to be leader of the tribe of Naphtali." |
| 29These are the men whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan. | 29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance of the Israelis in the land of Canaan. |
