Berean Study Bible | King James Bible |
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal. | 1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. |
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. | 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. |
If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing. | 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. |
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. | 4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, |
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. | 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; |
Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. | 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; |
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. | 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. |
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed. | 8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. |
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, | 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. |
but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away. | 10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. |
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways. | 11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. |
Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. | 12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. |
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love. | 13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. |
