Therefore Christ having suffered in the flesh, also make ready (weaponize) yourselves with the same engaged mind (in-thinking); for the one having suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;
No longer to live the still remaining time in the flesh unto men’s passionate urges, but rather to the will of God.
For the past time is sufficient to have worked out the resolve of the ethnicities, having journeyed (gone, traveled) in unrestrained insolence (sensuality, looseness), passionate urges (lusts), drunkenness (overflowing with wine, excess of wine, wine-drinking, latin-vinolentiis-intoxication root is drunkard), debauched partying (includes unbridled sexual immorality, carousing, revellings, village-merrymaking that was wild, riotous, and with orgies, latin-rioting), drinking bouts (latin-carousing), and non-customary (lawless, unlawful, criminal) idolatries (image worship/render sacred service).
In this they think it strange of you not running with them into the same overflow of debauched prodigality (unsavedness, wastefulness), blaspheming you (speaking evil/defamation of you),
Who will give (return) word (account) to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For unto this, even the gospel was preached to the dead, so that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh; however so they might live according to God in the spirit. 7Now the end of all has drawn near. Be sound-minded (safety-minded, sober/safe balanced outlook) therefore and be sober (unintoxicated) unto prayers; 8Above all things, having fully extended (intent, stretched out, latin-continuam-continuous) love unto yourselves, because love covers over a multitude (greek like plethora) of sins; 9Be hospitable (loving guests/strangers) unto one another without murmuring (grumbling); 10Just as each has received a gift (charisma) ministering (diakonountes) it unto each other, as good (kaloi) stewards (household managers) of the manifold (many colored, of different/various colors/kinds) grace of God. 11If anyone speaks, as the oracles (logia-divine communication) of God; if anyone ministers (diakonei), as from out of the strength which God richly supplies, so that in all things God shall be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the dominion (exerted power) unto the ages of the ages. Amen. 12Beloved, do not be surprised (think it strange) at the burning refinement with (to, towards) trial taking place among you, as if a strange thing were happening to you; 13But rather just as you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also in the revelation of His glory, you might rejoice exulting. 14If you are insulted (reproached) in the name of Christ, you are blessed (made long/large); because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you; according to them He is blasphemed, however according to you He is glorified. 15For let not anyone of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a prier into the affairs of others (troubling overseer/meddler/intruder of others office/affairs outside his calling); 16If however as a Christian (greek-Christianos) let him not be ashamed; however let him glorify God in this name. 17Because the time for judgment has begun from the house of God; and if first from us, what will be the end (outcome) of those refusing to be persuaded of the gospel of God? 18And, “If the righteous one with great difficulty (hardly, scarcely, barely) is saved, where will the ungodly (irreverent) and sinner appear?” 19Therefore also, those suffering according to the will of God, let them commit (set/place close beside, entrust) their souls to the faithful Creator in good-doing. |
