1And I, having come to you, brothers, came not according to superiority (hold above, excellency, preeminence, elevated prominence, loftiness) of speech or of wisdom, preaching to you the testimony of God.
2For I decided not to perceive (see and know) anything among you, except Jesus Christ and Him having been crucified.
3And I was with you, in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4And my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power-
5That your faith may not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6Yet we speak wisdom among the mature (full-grown), but not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nought. 7But rather we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the wisdom having been hidden, which God foreordained (predestined, predetermined) before the ages for our glory, 8Which none of the rulers of this age have known, for if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9But rather, as it has been written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor has ascended (come upwards) upon the heart of man, what God has prepared for those loving Him” — 10But God has revealed them to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit diligently searches (examines) all things, even the depths of God. 11For who among men knows the things of the man, except the spirit of the man that is within him? So also the things of God no one has known, except the Spirit of God. 12Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but rather the Spirit who is from out of God, that we may know the things having been freely given in grace (charizomai- extend favor, exercise grace, freely show favor)) to us by God, 13Which we also speak, not in words taught of human wisdom, but rather in those taught of the Spirit comparing spiritual things with (by) spirituals (possibly …spiritual things by spiritual means). 14Now the soulish (natural, psychikos, of the soul or mind) man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for to him they are absurd folly (dullness, foolishness) and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15Now he who is spiritual discerns all things, however he himself is discerned by no one. 16For who has known the understanding (mind) of the Lord, that he will instruct (put together in reasoning, prove, cause to get on board a ship) Him? However we have the understanding (mind) of Christ. |
