1And it came to pass that, when Jesus had finished commanding His twelve disciples, He left there to teach and to preach in their cities.

2Now John, having heard in prison of the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples, 3Saying to Him, "Are You the One Who is coming, or are we to look for another?" 4Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised, and the poor are evangelized. 6And blessed is everyone who shall not be offended in Me."

7And as they were leaving, Jesus said to the multitudes concerning John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one more excellent than a prophet.

10For this is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who shall prepare Your way before You. '

11Truly I say to you, there has not arisen among those born of women anyone greater than John the Baptist. But the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12For from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is taken with a great struggle, and the zealous ones lay hold on it. 13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who was to come. 15The one who has ears to hear, let him hear.

16But to what shall I compare this generation? It is exactly like little children sitting in the markets and calling to their companions, 17And saying, 'We have piped to you, and you did not dance; we have mourned to you, and you did not wail. ' 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon. ' 19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a man who is a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners. ' But wisdom is justified by her children."

20Then He began to castigate the cities in which most of His miracles had taken place, because they did not repent: 21"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that have taken place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23And you, Capernaum, who have been exalted to heaven, shall be cast down to the grave. For if the miracles that have taken place in you had taken place in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

25At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to babes. 26Yes, Father, for it was well pleasing in Your sight to do this. 27All things were delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son personally chooses to reveal Him.

28Come to Me, all you who labor and are overly burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. 30For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."
