In the context of the Bible, the term "accorded" refers to the granting or bestowing of something, often in the sense of honor, respect, or a particular status. This concept is deeply rooted in the biblical narrative, where God, as the ultimate authority, accords blessings, responsibilities, and judgments to individuals and nations according to His divine will and purpose.

Divine Favor and Honor

Throughout Scripture, being accorded divine favor is a significant theme. For instance, Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord and was accorded the responsibility of building the ark to preserve life during the flood (Genesis 6:8-9). Similarly, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was accorded the honor of bearing the Messiah, as the angel Gabriel declared, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you" (Luke 1:28).

Authority and Responsibility

The Bible also speaks of authority and responsibility being accorded to individuals. In the Old Testament, Joseph was accorded authority over Egypt by Pharaoh because of his God-given ability to interpret dreams and his wise counsel (Genesis 41:39-41). In the New Testament, Jesus accorded authority to His disciples, empowering them to preach the gospel and perform miracles in His name (Matthew 10:1).

Respect and Honor Among People

The concept of being accorded respect and honor is also evident in interpersonal relationships. The Apostle Paul instructs believers to "Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor" (Romans 13:7). This reflects the biblical principle of recognizing and according due respect to others, whether in positions of authority or within the community of believers.

Judgment and Consequences

Conversely, the Bible also addresses the consequences accorded to those who disobey God's commands. The Israelites, for instance, were accorded judgment and exile due to their persistent idolatry and rebellion against God (2 Kings 17:6-23). This serves as a sobering reminder of the seriousness with which God accords both blessings and judgments.

Eternal Rewards

In the eschatological sense, the Bible speaks of eternal rewards being accorded to the faithful. Jesus promises that those who overcome will be accorded the right to eat from the tree of life and will be granted a place in the New Jerusalem (Revelation 2:7, 21:7). This future hope underscores the ultimate fulfillment of God's promises to His people.

In summary, the concept of being accorded something in the Bible encompasses a wide range of divine and human interactions, highlighting the importance of God's sovereignty, the responsibilities entrusted to individuals, and the respect and honor due among people.
