The eggs deposited beneath her body were thus protected until the larvae were hatched and able to enter their own life cycle. As the mother died, the crimson fluid stained her body and the surrounding wood. From the dead bodies of such female scarlet worms, the commercial scarlet dyes of antiquity were extracted. What a picture this gives of Christ, dying on the tree, shedding His precious blood that He might 'bring many sons unto glory' (Heb 2:10)! He died for us, that we might live through him! Ps 22:6 describes such a worm and gives us this picture of Christ. (cf. Isa 1:18) (from page 73, 'Biblical Basis for Modern Science', 1985, Baker Book House, by Henry Morris) שָׁנִ֖י (šā·nî) Noun - masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 8144: 1) scarlet, crimson 1a) properly, the insect 'coccus ilicis', the dried body of the female yielding colouring matter from which is made the dye used for cloth to colour it scarlet or crimson fine linen וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (wə·šêš) Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 8336: 1) something bleached white, byssus, linen, fine linen 2) alabaster, similar stone, marble and goat hair; וְעִזִּֽים׃ (wə·‘iz·zîm) Conjunctive waw | Noun - feminine plural Strong's Hebrew 5795: 1) female goat, she-goat, goat, kid Parallel Strong's Berean Study Bibleblue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair; Young's Literal Translation and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and linen, and goats’ [hair], Holman Christian Standard Bible blue, purple, and scarlet yarn ; fine linen and goat hair; New American Standard Bible blue, purple and scarlet [material], fine linen, goat [hair], King James Bible And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' [hair], Parallel Verses New International Version blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; New Living Translation blue, purple, and scarlet thread; fine linen and goat hair for cloth; English Standard Version blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats’ hair, New American Standard Bible blue, purple and scarlet material, fine linen, goat hair, King James Bible And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair, Holman Christian Standard Bible blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair; International Standard Version blue, purple, and scarlet material; fine linen and goat hair; NET Bible blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goat's hair, American Standard Version and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats hair , English Revised Version and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair; Young's Literal Translation and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and linen, and goats' hair, Cross References Exodus 25:3 And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass, Exodus 25:5 And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood, Exodus 28:5 And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.
