| 1We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near. People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds. | 1For the music director; according to the al-tashcheth style; a psalm of Asaph; a song. We give thanks to you, O God! We give thanks! You reveal your presence; people tell about your amazing deeds. |
| 2God says, “At the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked. | 2God says, "At the appointed times, I judge fairly. |
| 3When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm. Interlude | 3When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, I make its pillars secure." (Selah) |
| 4“I warned the proud, ‘Stop your boasting!’ I told the wicked, ‘Don’t raise your fists! | 4I say to the proud, "Do not be proud," and to the wicked, "Do not be so confident of victory! |
| 5Don’t raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance.’” | 5Do not be so certain you have won! Do not speak with your head held so high! |
| 6For no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness— should raise a defiant fist. | 6For victory does not come from the east or west, or from the wilderness. |
