New Living Translation | King James Bible |
When the Israelites escaped from Egypt— when the family of Jacob left that foreign land— | 1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; |
the land of Judah became God’s sanctuary, and Israel became his kingdom. | 2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. |
The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way! The water of the Jordan River turned away. | 3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. |
The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs! | 4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. |
What’s wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way? What happened, Jordan River, that you turned away? | 5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? |
Why, mountains, did you skip like rams? Why, hills, like lambs? | 6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? |
Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob. | 7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; |
He turned the rock into a pool of water; yes, a spring of water flowed from solid rock. | 8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters. |
