Psalm 48
NLT Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
How great is the LORD, how deserving of praise, in the city of our God, which sits on his holy mountain!1Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King!2Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King.
God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers, revealing himself as its defender.3Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge.
The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city.4Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together,
But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.5they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away.
They were gripped with terror and writhed in pain like a woman in labor.6Trembling seized them there, pains like those of a woman in labor,
You destroyed them like the mighty ships of Tarshish shattered by a powerful east wind.7as when an east wind destroyed the ships of Tarshish.
We had heard of the city’s glory, but now we have seen it ourselves— the city of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. It is the city of our God; he will make it safe forever. Interlude8Just as we have heard, so have we seen; in the city of the LORD of the heavenly armies— even in the city of our God— God will establish her forever. Interlude
O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple.9God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple.
As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory.10God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice. Let all the towns of Judah be glad because of your justice.11Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments.
Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers.12March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers.
Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations.13Take note of her ramparts; investigate her citadels; that you may speak about them to the next generation.
For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die.14For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death.
