New King James Version | International Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In the LORD I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? | 1I take refuge in the LORD. So how can you say to me, "Flee like a bird to the mountains."? |
For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. | 2Look, the wicked have bent their bow and placed their arrow on the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright in heart. |
If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? | 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? |
The LORD is in His holy temple, The LORD’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. | 4The LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD's throne is in the heavens. His eyes see, his glance examines humanity. |
The LORD tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. | 5The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence, he hates. |
Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup. | 6He rains on the wicked burning coals and sulfur; a scorching wind is their destiny. |
For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright. | 7Indeed, the LORD is righteous; he loves righteousness; the upright will see him face-to-face. |
