1For the director of music. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. | 1For the music director; by David. In the LORD I have taken shelter. How can you say to me, "Flee to a mountain like a bird! |
2For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. | 2For look, the wicked prepare their bows, they put their arrows on the strings, to shoot in the darkness at the morally upright. |
3When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" | 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the godly accomplish?" |
4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. | 4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people. |
5The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. | 5The LORD approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence. |
6On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. | 6May the LORD rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! |
7For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. | 7Certainly the LORD is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will experience his favor. |
