| 2"Command the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries: | 2"Give these instructions to the Israelites, and tell them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that has been assigned to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan with its borders, |
| 3"'Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea, | 3your southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the Edomite border, and your southern border will run eastward to the extremity of the Salt Sea, |
| 4cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon, | 4and then the border will turn from the south to the Scorpion Ascent, continue to Zin, and then its direction will be from the south to Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. |
| 5where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea. | 5There the border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and then its direction is to the sea. |
| 6"'Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This will be your boundary on the west. | 6"'And for a western border you will have the Great Sea. This will be your western border. |
| 7"'For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor | 7"'And this will be your northern border: From the Great Sea you will draw a line to Mount Hor; |
| 8and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad, | 8from Mount Hor you will draw a line to Lebo Hamath, and the direction of the border will be to Zedad. |
| 9continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north. | 9The border will continue to Ziphron, and its direction will be to Hazar Enan. This will be your northern border. |
| 10"'For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. | 10"'For your eastern border you will draw a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. |
| 11The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee. | 11The border will run down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border will descend and reach the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. "'This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.'" | 12Then the border will continue down the Jordan River and its direction will be to the Salt Sea. This will be your land by its borders that surround it.'" |
| 13Moses commanded the Israelites: "Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The LORD has ordered that it be given to the nine-and-a-half tribes, | 13Then Moses commanded the Israelites: "This is the land which you will inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes, |
| 14because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. | 14because the tribe of the Reubenites by their families, the tribe of the Gadites by their families, and half of the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. |
| 15These two-and-a-half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise." | 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, toward the sunrise." |

| 18And appoint one leader from each tribe to help assign the land. | 18You must take one leader from every tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. |
| 19These are their names: Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the tribe of Judah; | 19These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh; |
| 20Shemuel son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Simeon; | 20from the tribe of the Simeonites, Shemuel son of Ammihud; |
| 21Elidad son of Kislon, from the tribe of Benjamin; | 21from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Kislon; |
| 22Bukki son of Jogli, the leader from the tribe of Dan; | 22and from the tribe of the Danites, a leader, Bukki son of Jogli. |
| 23Hanniel son of Ephod, the leader from the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph; | 23From the Josephites, Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh; |
| 24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, the leader from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph; | 24from the tribe of the Ephraimites, a leader, Kemuel son of Shiphtan; |
| 25Elizaphan son of Parnak, the leader from the tribe of Zebulun; | 25from the tribe of the Zebulunites, a leader, Elizaphan son of Parnach; |
| 26Paltiel son of Azzan, the leader from the tribe of Issachar; | 26from the tribe of the Issacharites, a leader, Paltiel son of Azzan; |
| 27Ahihud son of Shelomi, the leader from the tribe of Asher; | 27from the tribe of the Asherites, a leader, Ahihud son of Shelomi; |
| 28Pedahel son of Ammihud, the leader from the tribe of Naphtali." | 28and from the tribe of the Naphtalites, a leader, Pedahel son of Ammihud." |
| 29These are the men the LORD commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan. | 29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide up the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan. |
