| 1The LORD said to Moses, | 1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 2"Command the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries: | 2"Command the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance, even the land of Canaan according to its borders. |
| 3"'Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea, | 3'Your southern sector shall extend from the wilderness of Zin along the side of Edom, and your southern border shall extend from the end of the Salt Sea eastward. |
| 4cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon, | 4Then your border shall turn direction from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim and continue to Zin, and its termination shall be to the south of Kadesh-barnea; and it shall reach Hazaraddar and continue to Azmon. |
| 5where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea. | 5The border shall turn direction from Azmon to the brook of Egypt, and its termination shall be at the sea. |
| 6"'Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This will be your boundary on the west. | 6As for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea, that is, its coastline; this shall be your west border. |
| 7"'For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor | 7And this shall be your north border: you shall draw your border line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor. |
| 8and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad, | 8'You shall draw a line from Mount Hor to the Lebo-hamath, and the termination of the border shall be at Zedad; |
| 9continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north. | 9and the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and its termination shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your north border. |
| 10"'For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. | 10'For your eastern border you shall also draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham, |
| 11The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee. | 11and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain; and the border shall go down and reach to the slope on the east side of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. "'This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.'" | 12'And the border shall go down to the Jordan and its termination shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land according to its borders all around.'" |
| 13Moses commanded the Israelites: "Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The LORD has ordered that it be given to the nine-and-a-half tribes, | 13So Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, "This is the land that you are to apportion by lot among you as a possession, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes. |
| 14because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. | 14"For the tribe of the sons of Reuben have received theirs according to their fathers' households, and the tribe of the sons of Gad according to their fathers' households, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their possession. |
| 15These two-and-a-half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise." | 15"The two and a half tribes have received their possession across the Jordan opposite Jericho, eastward toward the sunrising." |
| 16The LORD said to Moses, | 16Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 17"These are the names of the men who are to assign the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. | 17"These are the names of the men who shall apportion the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. |
| 18And appoint one leader from each tribe to help assign the land. | 18"You shall take one leader of every tribe to apportion the land for inheritance. |
| 19These are their names: Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the tribe of Judah; | 19"These are the names of the men: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. |
| 20Shemuel son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Simeon; | 20"Of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Samuel the son of Ammihud. |
| 21Elidad son of Kislon, from the tribe of Benjamin; | 21"Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. |
| 22Bukki son of Jogli, the leader from the tribe of Dan; | 22"Of the tribe of the sons of Dan a leader, Bukki the son of Jogli. |
| 23Hanniel son of Ephod, the leader from the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph; | 23"Of the sons of Joseph: of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh a leader, Hanniel the son of Ephod. |
| 24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, the leader from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph; | 24"Of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim a leader, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. |
| 25Elizaphan son of Parnak, the leader from the tribe of Zebulun; | 25"Of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun a leader, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. |
| 26Paltiel son of Azzan, the leader from the tribe of Issachar; | 26"Of the tribe of the sons of Issachar a leader, Paltiel the son of Azzan. |
| 27Ahihud son of Shelomi, the leader from the tribe of Asher; | 27"Of the tribe of the sons of Asher a leader, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. |
| 28Pedahel son of Ammihud, the leader from the tribe of Naphtali." | 28"Of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali a leader, Pedahel the son of Ammihud." |
| 29These are the men the LORD commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan. | 29These are those whom the LORD commanded to apportion the inheritance to the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan. |
