| 1Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. | 1God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. |
| 2The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. | 2The fear and terror of you will be in every living creature on the earth, every bird of the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are placed under your authority. |
| 3Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. | 3Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything. |
| 4"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. | 4However, you must not eat meat with its lifeblood in it. |
| 5And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. | 5I will require the life of every animal and every man for your life and your blood. I will require the life of each man's brother for a man's life. |
| 6"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind. | 6Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in His image. |
| 7As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it." | 7But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it." |

| 10and with every living creature that was with you--the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature on earth. | 10and with every living creature that is with you--birds, livestock, and all wildlife of the earth that are with you--all the animals of the earth that came out of the ark. |
| 11I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." | 11I confirm My covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by the waters of a flood; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth." |
| 12And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: | 12And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: |
| 13I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. | 13I have placed My bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. |
| 14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, | 14Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, |
| 15I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. | 15I will remember My covenant between Me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. |
| 16Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." | 16The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all the living creatures on earth." |
| 17So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth." | 17God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant that I have confirmed between Me and every creature on earth." |
| 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) | 18Noah's sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. |
| 19These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth. | 19These three were Noah's sons, and from them the whole earth was populated. |
| 20Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. | 20Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard. |

| 24When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, | 24When Noah awoke from his drinking and learned what his youngest son had done to him, |
| 25he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers." | 25he said: Canaan will be cursed. He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers. |
| 26He also said, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. | 26He also said: Praise the LORD, the God of Shem; Canaan will be his slave. |
| 27May God extend Japheth's territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth." | 27God will extend Japheth; he will dwell in the tents of Shem; Canaan will be his slave. |
| 28After the flood Noah lived 350 years. | 28Now Noah lived 350 years after the flood. |
| 29Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died. | 29So Noah's life lasted 950 years; then he died. |
