1Come! Let's sing for joy to the LORD! Let's shout out praises to our protector who delivers us! | 1Come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. |
2Let's enter his presence with thanksgiving! Let's shout out to him in celebration! | 2Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. |
3For the LORD is a great God, a great king who is superior to all gods. | 3For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods. |
4The depths of the earth are in his hand, and the mountain peaks belong to him. | 4He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. |
5The sea is his, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land. | 5The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. |
6Come! Let's bow down and worship! Let's kneel before the LORD, our creator! | 6Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our maker, |
7For he is our God; we are the people of his pasture, the sheep he owns. Today, if only you would obey him! | 7for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today! |
8He says, "Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, like they were that day at Massah in the wilderness, | 8The LORD says, “Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah, as they did at Massah in the wilderness. |
9where your ancestors challenged my authority, and tried my patience, even though they had seen my work. | 9For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw everything I did. |
10For forty years I was continually disgusted with that generation, and I said, 'These people desire to go astray; they do not obey my commands.' | 10For forty years I was angry with them, and I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’ |
11So I made a vow in my anger, 'They will never enter into the resting place I had set aside for them.'" | 11So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’” |
