But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.1But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,3Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.5to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;6Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,
in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,7showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.8and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,9Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,
not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,12It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,13as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.14He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.
These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you.
