But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. | 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. |
For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, | 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, |
unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, | 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, |
treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; |
holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. | 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. |
For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, | 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, |
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. | 8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. |
But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also. | 9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. |
Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, | 10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, |
persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! | 11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. |
Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. | 12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. |
But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. |
You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, | 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; |
and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; | 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: |
so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. | 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. |
