And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain-- | 1Working together with Him, we also appeal to you, "Don't receive God's grace in vain." |
for He says, "AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU, AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU." Behold, now is "THE ACCEPTABLE TIME," behold, now is "THE DAY OF SALVATION "-- | 2For He says: I heard you in an acceptable time, and I helped you in the day of salvation. Look, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. |
giving no cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited, | 3We give no opportunity for stumbling to anyone, so that the ministry will not be blamed. |
but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God, in much endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses, | 4But as God's ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardship, by difficulties, |
in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in hunger, | 5by beatings, by imprisonments, by riots, by labors, by sleepless nights, by times of hunger, |
in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, | 6by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, |
in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, | 7by the message of truth, by the power of God; through weapons of righteousness on the right hand and the left, |
by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; regarded as deceivers and yet true; | 8through glory and dishonor, through slander and good report; as deceivers yet true; |
as unknown yet well-known, as dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put to death, | 9as unknown yet recognized; as dying and look--we live; as being disciplined yet not killed; |
as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing yet possessing all things. | 10as grieving yet always rejoicing; as poor yet enriching many; as having nothing yet possessing everything. |
Our mouth has spoken freely to you, O Corinthians, our heart is opened wide. | 11We have spoken openly to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide. |
You are not restrained by us, but you are restrained in your own affections. | 12You are not limited by us, but you are limited by your own affections. |
Now in a like exchange-- I speak as to children-- open wide to us also. | 13I speak as to my children. As a proper response, you should also be open to us. |
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? | 14Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? |
Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? | 15What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? |
Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. | 16And what agreement does God's sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God, as God said: I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people. |
"Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. | 17Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you. |
"And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty. | 18I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty. |
